Embark on a 12-day adventure with AV Tours' Explorer Kenya Safari, a perennial favorite among past guests. The journey kicks off in Nairobi and takes you through breathtaking landscapes, starting with Mount Kenya and Samburu Game Reserve, renowned for its unique wildlife, including oryx, grevy zebras, and reticulated giraffes. The itinerary then leads to Sweetwaters Tented Camp, offering exclusive activities and a visit to Jane Goodall's Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Continuing through scenic drives, the safari explores Lake Baringo, known for its avian abundance, and Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for pink flamingos. After an excursion to Hell's Gate Park, the adventure culminates in the iconic Masai Mara, where you can witness the spectacular annual wildebeest migration. The final day includes game drives and concludes with a return trip to Nairobi or transfer to Jomo Kenyatta Airport for international departures, marking the end of this unforgettable safari experience.

Morning departure driving past the coffee and pineapple plantations and the foothills of Mount Kenya scenic views and short stop at the equator, proceed on via Isiolo on to the dry semi-desert area of Samburu Game Reserve.Samburu national reserve derives its name from the Samburu people of Kenya who have lived in the area for many years. The Uaso Nyiro River cuts through this reserve, drawing a big population of animals to drink. Samburu National Reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness. Their story was made famous by the bestselling book and award-winning movie "Born Free". Arrive in good time for lunch and check in. Your stay shall be for two nights at the Samburu in lodges or tented camps mostly located on the banks of the river. After lunch, relax by the pool and at four o'clock a game drive, Samburu’s beauty is of its own kind and with no comparrison to any other park in regards to animal species found here namely, the oryx, grevy zebras and Gerenuk giraffe gazelles reticulated giraffes, herds of elephants with their daily bathing ritual in the river! to mention just a few. This Park has year-round temperatures between 20-35 degrees.  Samburu have the best chances of spotting the 'Big cats'; leopards can be found mainly on the river line forest while the open plains is perfect hunting ground for the cheetah. Afternoon game drive and back to the lodge to watch the sunset with a drink at the banks of Uso Nyiro, dinner and overnight at Samburu Lodge/ tented camp.
After an early (0600hrs) cup of tea / coffee, morning game drive, and then return for a full breakfast. Long morning game drives in the park are not common, wild animals and other creatures look for shadow from the hot temperature of the day while human being cool at the pool. Morning and afternoon game drives with all meals at the lodge/tented camp.
After breakfast depart the Samburu for Sweetwaters to arrive in time for lunch at Sweetwaters Tented Camp. This is a private game ranch with activities such as walking safaris, night game drives, horse riding (excl). * reserved at the reception. The luxury tents are set around a watering hole, with the snow-capped Mt. kenya as the front view with animal traffic passing infront of your tents to the water hole. During the game drive, visit Jane Goodall's Chimpanzee Sanctuary; where she secured a place to save the endangered chimps from Rwanda. Game viewing of all other animals like elephants, rhinos, cats and other mammals are to be seen. Dinner and one night at the Sweetwater’s Tented Camp/Olpejeta house.
Departure after breakfast with the scenic drive along the Aberdares, with a stop at the Thomson Falls (75m long) in Nyahururu formely Thompson falls, passing coffee and tea plantations to Nakuru with lunch en route, The safari travels through vast sisal plantations to Lake Bogoria. Begin your game drive along the lake shores, which is a soda lake situated in the volcanic mountains of the Great Rift Valley filled by the pink flamingoes and includes hot springs; the termite mounds in around this area are chimney shaped. L. Bogoria is a birds watchers paradise and famous for the millions of flamingoes at some particular months in a year. After game drive proceed to Lake Baringo. This is sparsely inhabited by the Tugen ,Pokot ,Masai Njemps and Nandi tribe who depend on livestock and fish in  this warm northen part of kenya .A twenty  minutes boat ride gets you to the Island Camp which is beautifully situated on a rocky outcrop. Dinner and overnight at Island camp
Awake with a cup of coffee and enjoy sunrise viewing the lake. After breakfast in the open dining tent, a boat trip in this crater lake rich in bird life starts your day. Goliath heron, osprey, king fishers, pelicans and many species of bird life including, hippos, and crocodiles are easily to be seen including the fish market on the one of the island with hot geishers for cooking the fish that you might have bought in the boat market. Lunch at the camp and afternoon at leisure. A visit to the traditional Pokot village or school is also possible and can be arranged at the reception and* not included on package. All meals and overnight at the Island Camp.
After breakfast, back to mainland by boat from the camp, and re-unite with your guide, who stayed on the mainland during your island stay. Departure for the Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its pink flamingos and pelicans. The game drives go around the lake, through dense acacia forests interspersed with grasslands with a rich of wildlife: impala, buffalo, waterbuck and Rothschild Giraffe. Check in for lunch at the Lodge, stay in a luxurious room, beautifully situated on the slopes of a hill, with a view of the park and the lake. Wildlife surrounds the lodges, afternoon free followed by 16.00hrs game drive in search of game via the spetacular baboon Cliff for panorama view of the lake and the park. Back for dinner and overnight.
breakfast and check out with easy game drive out to Lake Naivasha for lunch and check in.  after lunch proceed to the nearby Hellgate park. The is best visited walking or with a bicycle. The park deprives its name from the contours of the park which looks like hell. Animals like buffalos, zebras and different types of antelopes are to be seen. Dinner and overnight at lodge.
Drive across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve. The afternoon is spent game viewing. Masai Mara is “one” of the most famous reserves in Africa and is the Kenyan section of the Serengeti plains and wildlife is abundant. The Mara is 1,510 sq.Kms of open grasslands dotted with the distinctive flat topped acacia trees. It is watered by the tree-lined Mara River and its tributary the Talek River. The western border of the park is the spectacular Oloololo Escarpment. The concentrations of game are at its highest in the months of July through October when the Mara is the host to the annual migration of more than two million wildebeest. Arrive in good time for lunch with afternoon relaxing followed by 16.00hrs game drive. Dinner and overnight at lodge or tented camp.
These two days are based on game drives either before breakfast or after breakfast and even full day with picnic lunches which all depends on your choice. The mara river with its crocodiles and hippos is a perfect place to enjoy your lunch on the course of your game drive, which would have yielded various animal and birds specises. The discovery and National geograhics media are in the months of July to octomber located in the mara to capture the great migration as it happens owing to the various points of wildebeest crossings mara river, a memorable event that you will not forget.  All meals and overnights at your lodge or camp.
breakfast, pack your suitcase and depart for your return trip to Nairobi. For international clients, transfer to the airport for your return flight home or other destination.
